Ruby Intervenes

This little secret takes place at the beginning of the game, while you're on the Prima Vista Airship. When Baku explains the kidnapping plans to Tantalus, choose the option "...to kidnap Queen Brahne." Not only is Baku's reaction hilarious, but if you choose this option 64 times, Ruby breaks into the conversation and you can witness an extra little scene with her.

Mognet Central

The "Chocobo Hot and Cold" game, along with all the treasure hunting it entails, is by far the most complex side quest in FINAL FANTASY IX. Yet completing the side quest and getting the gold Choco is essential to unlocking so many other side quests. One such quest that depends on the gold Chocobo is the revival of Mognet.
On your way through Esto Gaza to Mount Gulug, delivering a letter to Mogrika the moogle causes her to indicate that Mognet is shutting down because of an accident. From this point on, most of the moogles will not have any letters to deliver and won't ask you to deliver any due to problems at the home office, Mognet Central.
You can reach Mognet Central with a light-blue chocobo (REEF chocobo) on Disc 3. On the east side of this island, you can find a crack in the mountain. Feed Choco a Dead Pepper to make him open the crack, revealing Mognet Central.
Inside, the moogle Artemicion confesses that he used too much of a certain "thing" to make his fur glossy, and there wasn't enough left to use on the machine that keeps Mognet running. Leave Mognet Central and travel south to Alexandria. Then speak to Kupo at the bell tower ruins, and he'll give you a letter to Atla. Thus begins a chain of letters that MUST be delivered from moogle to moogle in order to revive the Mognet. Although the moogles tell you which moogle to deliver to, they don't mention where that moogle is located!
Atla is the moogle at Burmecia. Return there now and deliver the letter. Atla wants you to take a letter to Mogryo, the moogle standing outside the chocobo farm at the Black Mage Village. Mogryo has a letter for Kumool. Return to Ipsen's Castle and exchange letters with Kumool in the courtyard. You receive a letter for Mois, the moogle from the Ice Cavern, in return.
However, the Ice Cavern is now blocked by roots that have grown over each entrance. Mois has moved to Qu's Marsh on the Mist Continent, and now stands outside the former entrance to Fossil Roo. Make sure you have Quina in your party, or else you won't have access to Fossil Roo. Mois has a letter for Noggy, the moogle at Daguerreo. Noggy, in turn, sends you back to Kupo in Alexandria with a final letter.
When Kupo reads the letter, you'll notice that it says someone in Alexandria has the item needed. Kupo isn't any help, but we'll save you the trouble!
Talk to Ruby in the Alexandria Mini-Theater, and she immediately hands over some of her hair gel, otherwise known as Superslick. Return to Mognet Central and turn over the item to Artemicion. The Mognet gets back to business, and you receive a Protect Ring for helping restore Mognet.

Feed the Moogle Family

Each time you receive a Kupo Nut for delivering mail between the moogles, return to Gizamaluke's Grotto and feed it to the father of the moogle family. You'll receive a random item in return. During the Chocograph treasure hunt, one of the stashes contains a full set of Hawaiian gear, but only 7 Aloha T-shirts. That leaves one of your characters out of the luau! Return to Gizamaluke's Grotto with a Kupo Nut during Disc 4 and the moogle gives you the 8th Aloha T-Shirt. Now everyone is stylin'!

Stellazzio
There are 12 Stellazzio coins, plus a 13th hidden coin, to find in different areas at any point during the game, even on Disc 4. Take these coins to Treno and offer them to Queen Stella. You receive a reward for each coin you hand over to her. The prizes get better with each coin you hand over, regardless of the order in which you do so.
After you give Queen Stella all 12 Stellazzio, speak to her again. This time, she senses that something may be missing. If you count the Stellazzio cages in her chamber, you'll notice that some are still empty. Upon agreeing that something is missing, the Queen charges you with finding the hidden 13th Stellazzio. To aid in your quest, she returns all 12 Stellazzio to you, so that you can read the clues inscribed on the backs of each one.
The clues from the 12 Stellazzio are as follows: "...headed east."; "...Through the forest and over the mountain..."; "...by the river..."; "...the cape...the sun was setting into the ocean..."; "...waiting for the sun to set in the ocean..."; "...watching the sunset from the cape..."; "...opposite the direction of the sun..."; "...always looked at his shadow, until one day, he deciced to look away. He walked up a hill..."; "...dashed through the night, defying the chilly northern wind that was stinging his right cheek..."; and "...ran up a hill toward the sun and fell asleep...". The clues on the last two Stellazzio, Aquarius and Pisces, serve only to wrap up the story.
Assembling all the clues into one, you can determine that the 13th Stellazzio is up a hill above a river, beyond darkness where the sun seems to be setting, somewhere to the southeast. Thus, if you leave Treno, the city of perpetual night, and head southeast to Quan's Dwelling, you'll find the Ophiuchus in the spot where you previously found the Scorpio Stellazzio. Incidentally, the back of the Stellazzio provides the conclusion to the story inscribed on the backs of the Stellazzio.
Head back to Treno and return the 12 Stellazzio to Queen Stella, plus the Ophiuchus. In return, you receive the Hammer. Now what's the purpose of a weapon that you can't equip on anyone? If this weapon is in your inventory at the end of the game, you'll see a hidden sequence. Also, read about the Hades side quest to find out more to do with the Hammer!

Ragtime Mouse

While wandering the forests of the world, you may encounter a strange creature that asks your party true or false questions. To answer a question, attack the large "circle" for "True" or "X" for "False."
For each correct answer, you receive a percentage grade based on the number of questions you've answered right. For each correct answer, you receive 1,000 Gil.
To locate the Ragtime Mouse, search in most any forest area. Note that the Ragtime Mouse is different from the friendly creatures, and you don't have to appease this creature to receive the Friendly Yan's blessing.

Friendly Monsters

At various locations on the World Map, a random battle occurs but the music sounds sweet and melodic. The creatures that appear won't attack either; instead, they beg you to give them a specific jewel. If you give them the jewel, your party receives a ton of AP and sometimes a useful item.
What is the secret of these strange monsters? Well, if you encounter all eight of them, you get to interact with the Friendly Yan on Vile Island. When you give this cute little creature what it desires, you get to attack Ozma physically. This is the most difficult hidden monster to overcome in the game, and the characters won't be able to use physical attacks without feeding all of the friendly creatures. Being able to attack Ozma physically enables characters such as Zidane, Steiner, and Amarant to be more useful in the fight.
You may notice that some friendly monsters make reference to other friendly monsters, and even give you the appropriate stone to feed to them. This reinforces the fact that there is a certain order in which to encounter the friendly creatures, and the table at the end of this section indicates the order.
The only catch is that you can only find some of the monsters in dangerous, out-of-the-way places. For example, you can only find the Purple Jabberwock in a forest on the west continent, which requires the Invincible airship or the red chocobo to reach. The Friendly Yan's more aggressive counterparts on Vile Island are, in fact, some of the toughest creatures in the game, and may wipe out your party during the effort.

THE ALMIGHTY YANS

If you get attacked by Yans while searching Vile island for the friendly Yan, summon Odin and cast Death on them every round. Also, try to perform the ReflectX2 trick with Vivi, and have everyone else perform their most powerful skill.

If Quina can successfully eat one of these enemies, s/he can learn the Auto-Life ability. Yans have around 20,000 HP, making them tough to dispose of quickly. However, each set of three is worth 28,000 EXP and 3 AP, which makes leveling up and learning abilities much easier!
